Day 34 Saturday June 9

Left our camp a little late and headed up the quick route to Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick. Before I forget. One of the seasonal renters at the camp yesterday brought us some fiddlehead ferns to cook. He said he lived in New Brunswick all of his life except the 30 years he lived in FL. The ferns are a local thing that is in season. We will have to brave it and give them a try. Boil, add salt, pepper, butter, and vinegar. We’ll see.
Another beautiful ride on great highway. Stopped in a small town along the way – Oromocto - at a little, old fashioned mall - but we were able to get a Canadian cell phone and pay as you go service which is $.69/minute for calls going to and received from the US. So short and sweet and emergencies only. Since we had the phone, called to check on cost of our broadband internet service while in Canada. $2.05/megabyte and we will try to figure out long that turns out to be - so again, the less the better. We will have to become more efficient and more selective with pictures which have to be a lot of bytes. Again, everyone very, very nice. Wish they all had more business.
When we got to Fredericton there was a Shriner’s Parade that had us going in circles. Ended up in the bus station parking lot to get out of the redirected traffic pattern. They were so nice. The guy got in the rv to direct us around the block to their back parking lot. I think he was just curious about the rv. Asked a couple people where to eat and they all said Cora’s – it’s just great and so much fruit. Well turned out to be a First Watch chain kind of place serving breakfast/lunch. Jack’s quiche was so bad couldn’t be eaten and they didn’t charge him. I had raspberry crepes that were very good – for $10.45 they should be. So a little disappointing and so much for the Rachel Ray approach to dining. I guess fresh fruit cups are a big deal to the people here. The town is small, capital city and university here so lots of young people. Don’t know the word for the style but lots of tattoos, weird hair and clothes. No one else around really. I guess it is a M-F government town. Some stores etc. closed.
Spent a little time visiting the old army garrison that is the main tourist attraction. Kind of interesting. The stables have been converted to gift shops. Very small museum. They do changing of the guard etc but only in Jul-Aug of course.
