Day 30 Tuesday June 5

Great day. Trolley tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park which is fabulous - what we could see. Very foggy although the rain had stopped so the spectacular views were more described than seen. I didn't know there was a huge fire that destroyed many of the mansion cottages and large hotels in Bar Harbor. They were never rebuilt and the heyday was over - our guide's theory is that automobile was in and cars were not allowed on Mt Desert island where Bar Harbor is so the wealthy moved on. Also the home of the Jackson Laboratory which I never heard of but apparently a world reknown cancer and genetic research center and the major supplier of lab rats because they can manipulate the genes. Major employer. By the way, it seems that we are breaking in all of the college kids starting their new jobs as we go along. Seems like everyone is being trained in the last week or so.
Had to print out the home insurance policy so we could sign it and then had a great lunch and a walk up Main Street window shopping so before you know it the day was over. We are just a few miles from Bar Harbor and ready for our ride up the rest of the coast of Maine. Supposedly one of the most beautiful rides in the country so hope we can see it. We are not going to go to Bangor. By the way it is pronounced bang gor as in Al. Can't find the pictures I just edited on the computer????
