On the road today. First picture was on our way out of our rv camp. Then along Rte 1 headed to Acadia National Park with little stops and detours along the way. One side trip to Booth Bay Harbor for old times sake. Val and I were there a long, long time ago. Little summer theatre still there but the rest is really unrecognizable with new development. Other side trip to Morse's Sauerkraut Haus. Worth the trip. More yummy German food and very reasonable in a small 6 table restaurant and many sausages and kraut to go from their great store.
Otherwise, lots and lots of kayak stores, antique shops (where do they get all of the stuff!) and believe it or not - an alpaca farm. I told Jack I just don't think this will be a legitimate trip unless we stay in a bed and breakfast of which there must be hundreds. Lots of bikers out on Sunday too.
Big thing is Camden that is the "typical" Maine seaside town. See picture of harbor with boats. Lots of tourists today. Along Rte 1 there are some scenes of the sea and lots of hotels and resorts that say seaside but really it is a seaview. Can't really get down to the water. Seaside doesn't mean the same here as it does in FL.
Across the Penobscot River - very famous battle along it - is a brand new bridge that looks like the Skyway Bridge from St Pete to Bradenton. Same idea as you can see but this one is much shorter and only one narrow lane each way. Apparently a lot of local resistance to new bridge so they agreed if made of granite which the towers are. One of them has an observatory room on top. Not sure how to get there. The old one is behind it and hasn't been torn down yet.
Another GLOOMY DAY. Not one minute of sun. I brightened up the harbor picture. Cold too. I don't think it was more than 55 degrees as the high. This is a great camp. Will stay another day with intent to spend all of tomorrow in the national park. It is second behind Yellowstone with number of annual visitors. Apparently August is the boom time and September is the nicest quieter time to visit. -- Note to self for the future. Brrrrrrrr is all I have to say.
