Day 12 Friday May 18

Well, what a great day. Just took a chance this morning to see if we could get a reservation at the Culinary Institute of America that is in Hyde Park and we got one in the Escofflier Restaurant! Just 9 tables in a beautiful room with a huge window so you can see into the kitchen.
Cost a small fortune but fab-u-lous!! From a bowl of asparagus soup that had to be made from a pound of asparagus. So good it tasted artificial. I had crab bisque that was almost a puree, very crab tasting without a piece of crab in it?? Jack and I shared pate rolled in truffles and a warm salad with sweet breads and morels. Then I had - believe it or not lamb chops that were breaded and sauteed in a pan and Jack had tornados of beef with shrimp in a kind of Hollandaise sauce. Ended with sampling of 6 cheeses. A bordeuax Gran Cru Classe Chateau d'Armailhac and I started with a sLide car- brandy, lillet (which I love), cointreau, and lemon. Yum. We gave all the students who served and cooked A+.
Jack said it was a short trip for the rv from Yogi Bear Jellystone Park to Escofflier and a giant leap for us travelers.
The Culinary Institute is wonderful to see. It was a former Jesuit monastery high up on the banks of the Hudson. Just beautiful inside and out. Fun to see all of the students who look very sharp in their chef clothes or business dress. Also they were very nice about us having to park far away and security gave us a ride to the door. So that was it. We ate for over 2 hours, a few errands and the day was shot.
By the way, crossed the Hudson River twice. It is huge (I was really surprised) and we are at the edge of the Catskills so the scenery is wonderful although cloudy all day. Also, almost forgot about lilac bushes which are everywhere and wisteria is so pretty. So on to the history stuff tomorrow. Staying in the area but moving to another park.
