GOOD START: Well, we started out just great. Wonderful ride from Dorothy to Princeton NJ. Lots of truck farms, roadside stands. Apparently it's asparagus country. Also noticed that many of the farm houses have electric candles in all the windows. Wonder why? May be Amish or Mennonite but don't know how the electricity fits in. Stopped at a truck stop and just for fun decided to have the RV weighed. Guess how much. No, it's 13,450 pounds - with Jack in it.
As we got closer to the cities, saw many diners and custard (dairy queen) - definitely a NJ thing. They are everywhere.
PRINCETON: Drove through the Princeton U. campus. Old and ivy for sure but students, etc look the same as anywhere else. Found a restaurant on the web - Main St Bistro that was on Harrison St in a shopping center??? Oh well. Anyway. Fabulous, but pricey food. Had to have the asparagus/goat cheese/grilled onions omelette because of the asparagus signs along the way. Great fun people watching and trying to figure out the connections of the people at the near-by tables. All of south NJ is very, very white. People just look different, and by the way the roads are horrible. All we could think about was the Soprano's and corruption so cheap road materials. Also, we are not happy about round-abouts. Signs for them say U-turns and left turns ahead. I swear there are no left turns in NJ. Have to turn right to go left - when they feel like letting you.
UGH!: Then all hell broke loose. We thought we here just going to head up Rte 206 to head to NY. GPS had other ideas and we decided to just see what would happen. For a while it was great and saw so much new development around Camden, etc. Then it was not good. Ended up taking us on the beltway around Jersey City, Newark, etc. HORRIBLE. bumper to bumper stopped traffic. Thought we were out of it, exited only to find more stopped traffic because of road work. Finally, decided to back track a little and get over to the road to get us on track. Took forever but ended up finally, just over the NJ/NY border. The development in this area is phenomenal. Ski resorts, horse farms, wineries. Very posh. Beautiful. We think the ski lift in Vernon NJ is brand new and never been used. Warwick NY looks like lots of old money with big, beautiful, old houses and lots of new money with a very trendy downtown.
PARKED FINALLY: We however, are in the next town - guess what? Florida, NY. Way up on a mountain (1/2 mile from entrance at bottom to our site) but camp is only so-so. Saw a deer cross the road coming into it.
By the way, did I mention that there was a thunderstorm and high winds in the middle of all this. So no pictures today. Did I mention we only saw one other RV all day today? Wonder why? NJ is not RV friendly. Big gap in the middle of the state where there are not camps and just big cities. We are glad to be settled tonight. They offer a tour of NY City from here - say it is only 1 hour to Times Square which is hard to believe. It's an 8-6 thing and we're not up for it. Seen it all anyway except Ground Zero so we will pass.
